John Heisel died peacefully at his home in Melbourne, Florida on February 21, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Alto Heisel; daughters and sons-in-law Kristin and Pete Driscoll (Fairfax, VA) and Kim and Jim Henry (Port St. Lucie, FL) and his ice-cream eating buddy, Brigid Driscoll, his granddaughter.

A native of Miami Springs, Florida, John moved to Melbourne upon graduation from the University of Florida in 1963. He was hired as an Electrical Engineer for Radiation-now Harris-where he met his future bride. John worked at Harris until his retirement in 2002.

In the 60s and early 70s, John was often seen riding his trick skis on the Grand Canal in Satellite Beach or deep sea fishing. By the 70's, he had traded in his water skis for SCUBA gear and began a 40 year hobby career in lobster diving. When not fishing or diving, John could be found on one of the many golf courses he loved to play.

A celebration of John's life will be held in early March. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
