Eugene F. Murdick, 85, entered heaven on Thursday, June 1, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 8, 1932, in Liverpool, NY, Gene was the son of Marion Murdick and James Gammon. He and his wife, Ruth (Denton), who passed away in October 2011, were married 58 years. They had 4 children; David Murdick, Cindy (Marc) Bock, Sandy (Richard) Van Hoose , and Steven (Kellene) Murdick. They had 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Gene served in the United States Air Force for 4 years as an airplane mechanic. After his time in the military, he went to work at Kennedy Space Center and worked for NASA for the rest of his career. He was part of the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle teams. After retiring, he spent a lot of time helping elderly friends maintain and repair their homes.

Gene loved spending time outdoors and being with his family. He enjoyed animals, especially his many dogs over the years.

He was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Melbourne and loved attending Sunday School and worship services.

After Ruth passed away, he spent months at a time in Maryland with his daughters and loved to ride around exploring the rolling countryside and visiting favorite restaurants. He enjoyed going to Rockland Breeze Farm to watch his granddaughter ride her horse. He enjoyed 2 visits to upper state New York in recent years to see his brother Bill, sister in law Sallie, and his nieces and nephews.

Back home in Florida, he enjoyed visits from his son, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gene was very proud of his family and will be greatly missed forever. We are comforted by the knowledge that he had the promise of eternal life through the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, June 9, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Melbourne, 3301 Dairy Road, Melbourne, FL 32901
