Former Palm Bay Mayor, Mel Broom peacefully passed away on August 12, 2017. He was 89.

Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Mel joined the Navy where he served for 20 years.
Later, Mel earned the position of General Manager-Assistant Vice President of General Development Corporation. Mel was an active volunteer in many civic and nonprofit organizations including Lions Clubs International, The United Way of Brevard and St. Lucie Counties, Melbourne and Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce and Palm Bay Community Hospital Advisory Committee.

Surviving Mel are daughters Ann Marie Chester (David) and Frances Armstrong (Jim), son Tom Broom (Mary) and sister, Katherine Nemeth. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A wake service will be held Friday, August 18th from 4-7 pm at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home.

A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 19th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Babcock Street, Palm Bay

A reception will be held following the funeral at the Knights of Columbus Hall on South Babcock St.

Mel will be interred with his wife Ann Louise at the Canaveral National Cemetery alongside their sons Michael and Lawrence Broom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Space Coast Early Intervention Center.
