In Loving Memory of Richard Marshall Wood
October 31, 1955 – April 21, 2025
Richard Marshall Wood, known affectionately as Rick, passed away on April 21, 2025, in Melbourne Beach, Florida. Born in October 1955 in Providence, Rhode Island, Rick grew up in Kingston, where he formed lifelong friendships and a love for the outdoors that would remain with him always.
Rick graduated from Rock Hill Country Day School in 1975, later earning degrees from Wentworth Institute in 1977 and Wentworth College in 1979. He began his professional career at Ionics, Inc., before relocating to Florida, where he worked for Lucent Technologies, Agere, and Intesel Corporation.
Rick was a well-known figure in the Melbourne Beach community, especially at The Oasis Lounge, where he often served as a backup bartender. His genuine willingness to help others—whether fixing something around the house or lending an empathetic ear—was a defining part of who he was. Rick would help anyone in need and always made people laugh, lifting spirits with his sharp wit and kind heart.
He had a passion for skiing, fishing, boating, and horticulture, and took pride in nurturing the plants he cared for as much as the people around him.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Porter S. Wood and Nadylis L. Wood. He is survived by his sister, Debby Nettles, and her husband, Robert; his nephew, Jeff Nettles, his wife Anabel, and their daughter Bella; and his niece, Ashley Harsey, her husband Dwayne, and their children Dalton and Delaney.
