Mary Jo Brackett
Mary Jo Brackett, born on January 27, 1937, in Cumberland, MD, to Joseph and Elenore Self, passed away peacefully at home on April 18, 2026.
Mary Jo married Edward H. (Eddie) Dorgan Brackett, before embarking to live in Germany for two years. Mary Jo is survived by her brother Joseph Self, two sons, Edward “Tuffy” Brackett and Joseph V. Brackett, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
On her return to the US, Mary Jo enrolled in college, attaining her master’s degree in education. She had a very long and rewarding career as an educator. Forever a teacher, even after her retirement, she never overlooked a teaching opportunity. An avid reader, Mary Jo routinely read two or three books a week, and as a result, she could hold a dynamic conversation with anyone on any topic.
After retirement, Mary Jo volunteered her time tutoring, rocking babies at a local hospital, providing transportation to those in need, rebinding books at the local library and serving as a Docent at the Melbourne Beach Old Town Hall Museum.
Mary Jo also traveled the world with great gusto. She delighted in traveling to new places, foreign and domestic, seeing the sights and meeting new friends. Her lively stories and wisdom will be cherished by her close family, friends and acquaintances alike. She lived well, loved deeply and will be remembered with fondness.
