Jerry Johns November 13,1948 – September 13, 2026 was a larger-than-life kind of man. He was a Florida cowboy through and through, with a deep passion for horses, team roping, and the people and traditions that made that life his own. It wasn’t simply something he did. It was part of who he was.
Jerry never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, and it didn’t take long before someone who had just met him felt like they had known him for years. He was outgoing, charismatic, and impossible to overlook.
He was also a talented boat dock builder, a craft he took tremendous pride in. If you ever rode along with Jerry down A1A or past just about any waterfront, you could count on hearing, “I built that dock 20 years ago.” He remembered the docks he built, where they were, and exactly how long ago he had built them. It was one of those little things that was simply Jerry.
He loved to have a good time, and he had a particular talent for keeping everyone around him guessing. Jerry loved a good joke and an elaborate prank, but he especially loved a surprise. The bigger and more unexpected the better. He could put considerable thought into a plan just for the sheer enjoyment of watching it unfold. And if there was an opportunity for Jerry to be the star of the show, you could be sure he was going to enjoy every minute of it.
Music was another part of Jerry’s life. He loved playing his guitar and singing, and in his later years he especially enjoyed sharing that gift at church, singing while he played.
He had a personality that filled a room and a knack for turning everyday moments into stories worth telling. His sense of humor, his love of horses, his friendships, and his unmistakable presence made him someone people simply didn’t forget.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife and his two adult stepchildren, along with countless friends and loved ones whose lives he touched along the way.
He leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendships, horses, docks, and memories. Some will bring tears, some will bring laughter, and some will probably start with, “You’re not going to believe what Jerry did…”
That was Jerry. Larger than life, one of a kind, and never far from the center of the action.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
