Brenda Lee Somerville, 74, born March 13, 1951 in Miami, FL entered glory to be forever at rest and peace with her Savior Jesus on December 28, 2025 while in Vitas Hospice Hospital, Rockledge, FL. She was as resident of Westminster Asbury in Cocoa, FL and will be missed by several close neighbors. The above picture of Brenda is as a young woman, true beauty, loving mother, and enthusiastic about life and her relationship to Christ.

Brenda was predeceased by her father, Mevin Dixon Somerville, who passed away in 1978 and her son, Howard Chasteen, Jr., who passed away in 2020. She is survived by her mother, Patricia McCarthy; her sisters Melene Gibbons (William) and Debra Dunn; and her brother, Leonard (Slim) Somerville (Orrene). Brenda is survived by her son, Leonard Chasteen, and her daughter, Stella Chasteen. She is also survived by a step-sister, Lenay Cohen (Yaniv) and step-brothers Stephen Somerville and Luke Somerville as well as grandchildren Seth Chasteen, Thomas Chasteen, Valentina Chasteen, and Alexandra Lipe (Michael); an aunt, Renay White (Ronald), along with numerous nieces and nephews.

As a youth, Brenda, Melene, Debra, and Slim loved to sing and the three sisters became a trio. Brenda became an incredible artist, hairdresser, and worked in the hospitality industry as a server. She worked at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, CA and later at a luxury resort in Cocoa Beach, FL. During her life Brenda had numerous cats that were a joy to her.

The origin of the name Brenda is from Gaelic and means beautiful. The spiritual connotation of the name is noble spirit. A Scripture for her name is Psalm 70:4: Let all those that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee; and let such as love Thy salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified.”

I did not know her for very long, but she quickly found a place in my heart. . She is at peace with Jesus and sometime in Glory we will meet again.
