Charles O. Baldwin, Jr.
Departed March 11, 2023 in Rockledge, Florida
Charles “Charlie” O. Baldwin, Jr.
Charles O. Baldwin, Jr., 87, affectionately known as Junior or Charlie to family and friends, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 11, 2023 due to complications from bone cancer. He was born on December 21, 1935 in Washington County, Virginia and lived in Ohio and Florida.
He is survived by his children; daughter Tracye Lynn (Kenny Anderson); Charles John, and Michael Richard; grandchildren Justin and Trevor and great-grandson Vincent Charles. He had a special relationship with his daughter-in-law, Melinda Baldwin; his sister-in-law, Carolyn; his nephew Gary Mize of Bristol, Virginia and the cat he loved and adored, Shadow. There are others who played an important role in his life.
He was preceded in death by his brother Carl; his sister Virginia; his mother Sally Louise and his father Charlie Sr. His most painful loss was in 1995, of his loving wife of 36 years, Sharon Lee (nee Yoby), who he never stopped loving, reminiscing and sharing stories from “the good old days.”
Charlie proudly served in the Army from 1959 to 1962, where he received a Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 35 years of work as a millwright.
He was a fair-minded and generous friend and father, who was also equally stubborn and mistrusting, to the point that up to the time he died, he carried a “decoy wallet” in his pocket just in case he got robbed. Charlie was a sharp card player, domino player and any game that required strategic thinking. He was proud of his skills and carried a $5 bill in his wallet from 1979, signed by the “fish” he hooked it from during a family card game.
He spent the past years living in either his home in Florida or at his country property in Columbia Station, Ohio. He was most proud of his home and the property he loved in Ohio. He was an avid collector – some could say hoarder – of old cars, boats, jeeps, and trucks – anything with an engine. He loved to tinker and could fix just about anything. He will be missed by those who loved him.
Charlie will be laid to rest next to his wife in Avon, Ohio. Memorial service information will follow at a later date for close friends and family.
