Born on May 30, 1935 in Worcester, Massachusetts
Passed on September 26, 2025 in Melbourne, Florida

George Edward Cronin, Sr., 90, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025. The son of Daniel and Mary (Ruddy) Cronin, George was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on May 30, 1935. He worked in several fields before serving his country with honor in both the U.S. Army Reserve and the U.S. Navy. He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Rollins College, and worked in electrical engineering for first Raytheon in Massachusetts and then Harris Corporation in Melbourne, FL.
A quiet and reserved man, George loved fishing, football, traveling and cruising, ice cream, and time spent with family. During his younger years he was always up for a game of catch or a trip to the park or beach. He saw much of the world during his time in the Navy, and was happy to revisit and explore new places with his wife and children after his retirement. At any family gathering, he could often be found sitting in a quiet corner, usually with one or more little ones sitting in his lap. Everyone knew there was no better place to watch a show or take a nap than curled up on Dad’s/Grandpa’s lap. George didn’t let many people into his inner circle, but those he did knew they were fiercely loved. He was a best friend, a loyal supporter and cheerleader, trusted confidant, your strongest ally, and a gently guiding moral compass. Though soft-spoken, his presence was steady and strong, and when he found something amusing, he had the best belly laugh. He will be remembered for his integrity, humility, and deep devotion to those he loved.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Anne “San” (LaVecchia) Cronin; his daughter, Anne Lisa; and his grandson, Cameron Cronin, as well as his parents, 6 sisters and 1 brother. He is survived by his children: George Cronin, Jr. (Laura) of Melbourne, FL; David Cronin (Barbi) of Melbourne, FL; Daniel Cronin (Lynn) of Austin, TX; and Nancy Ruel (Jim) of Austin, TX.
He also leaves behind eleven loving grandchildren: Kimberly LaScuola (Lonnie), Jennifer Kirtland (Tony), Sean Cronin, Cherylann Cronin, Eric Cronin, Tony Cronin (Kimberly), Sarah Cronin, Tyler Cronin, Katelyn Ruel, Jack Ruel, and Cody Ruel. George was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Drew LaScuola, Jacob LaScuola, Daniel Kirtland, Nicholas Kirtland, Julia Cronin, Mackenzie Cronin, Frank Cronin, and Ryan Cronin, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held for immediate family.
