Martin T. Riley
February 22, 1939 – September 17, 2025
Martin T. Riley, lovingly known as Marty and “Poppy,” passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at Holmes Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old.
Born on February 22, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Marty built a life full of love, hard work, and deep family connections. He began his career as a hairdresser and salon owner—a path that not only defined his early professional life but also led him to meet the love of his life, Theresa.
Together, Marty and Theresa built a life marked by partnership and entrepreneurship. After relocating to Florida, they opened a restaurant business before eventually founding a successful real estate company, where they continued to work side by side.
Marty was deeply devoted to his family and especially proud of his role as “Poppy.” He was an active and adventurous grandfather who, along with Theresa (“Nanny”), created the beloved tradition of “Nanny and Poppy Weekends.” These special gatherings were filled with fun, laughter, and countless adventures—memories that his grandchildren will carry with them forever.
Another of Marty’s favorite traditions was spending time with his children and grandchildren at the Jersey Shore. Summers and vacations by the ocean became treasured family rituals—filled with boardwalk fun, beach days, and togetherness in a place that always felt like home. These moments of joy and connection were among his most cherished.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence H. Riley, Jr. and Catharine E. Riley; his sister, Cathleen Revelas; and his brother, Clarence H. Riley III.
Marty is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa Riley; his children Ken Davey (wife Rachel), Mark Davey (wife Laurie), Marcella Riley Raines, and Martin Riley, Jr. (wife Katie); his grandchildren Bryan Davey, Nicholas Davey, Zachary Davey, Brandon Davey, Breana Thompson, Taylor Gift, Laci Raines, Preston Riley and Katelyn Shepherd; and his great-grandchildren Emmett Davey, McKenna Davey, Parker Davey, and Grace Shepherd.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, followed by a private burial.
Marty will be remembered for his generous spirit, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the memories he helped create, and the traditions he passed down.
