Born August 17, 1956, in Palm Bay, Florida
Passed September 13, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida
Hallie Jean Byars Orr passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024, following a challenging hospitalization.
Born and raised in Palm Bay, Florida, Hallie was a true Floridian, a rare soul who began and completed her life’s journey in the same place. Her final moments were spent in the very hospital where she was born, a reflection of her deep roots in the community she loved. A graduate of Melbourne High School, Hallie was known for her vibrant personality and adventurous spirit. She explored many paths before fully dedicating herself to the joys and challenges of motherhood.
Her talents were many, but it was her compassionate nature that truly set her apart. Hallie had a deep love for nature, especially the ocean and all forms of sea life. With a green thumb, she nurtured plants and gardens with care and was always surrounded by rescued animals, a testament to her loving heart. If asked about her greatest accomplishment, Hallie would undoubtedly say it was her children and grandchildren. Among the family’s cherished memories are the many moments spent together at Sebastian Inlet, a place where Hallie felt closest to God, immersed in the beauty of nature.
Hallie is survived by her partner of 31 years, Michael; her daughters Rhiannon Hughes (Jeremiah) and Ashley Casey (Sean); her son Matthew Orr; her grandchildren Sydney, Jordyn, Tyler, Madilyn, Lahela, Reese, and McKenna and her great-grandson, Bryson. She is also survived by her brothers Greg Byars and David Byars; her sister-in-law Sondra Byars; as well as her nieces Tonya and Kelly and nephews David and Dillon.
She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Mary Jean Byars; her brother Robert Byars; and her sister Barbara Jean Byars. The family extends special thanks to Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home for their care and support. A private celebration of Hallie’s life will be held on October 12, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hallie’s name to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, honoring her deep love for nature and wildlife:

I miss her so much but I know her spirit is here watching over all of us especially her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchild. They were her heart and soul and she was so proud of them. I miss her sense of humor and how she could make me laugh so hard. She was my go to person through anything going on in my life good or bad. I love you Hallie. Thank you for always being my sister/friend. I'll see you again someday.

Mom, You are so missed by all of us. Learning to live in a world without a mother leaves a heartache. My sister and I would not be the people we are today without the seasons of life we shared together. You provided us love, taught us strength, determination, compassion, respect, and taught us treat others how you want to be treated. I will hold tightly to the beautiful memories and continue to spread the love. I learned to admire God’s creations that surround us in everyday living , loving animals, getting excited over plants and flowers, watching sunrises and sunsets. Some of our favorite memories were beach days, zoo trips, excitement of holidays, visits from you to Maine and South Carolina. Mom(Meme) We love you bigger than the universe! Love does not die but carries on!

I have known Hallie since I was 7 years old, and it's hard to imagine a world without her beautiful yard, and her moving about the house never being still. I didn't see Hallie much in my adult years, but the times I did, she was still the same Hallie, loving and so incredibly proud of her kids and grandchildren, stubborn, and always ready to laugh. Hallie was a passionate person whose presence you could feel the moment she walked in the room, the earthly world dimmed a little when she left it. All my love to her family and all those who will deeply miss her in this life.

Hallie’s greatest joy in life was being a mother. Her children were the light of her world, and she gave everything she had to make sure they felt loved. Even though she wasn't rich in a monetary sense, she always made sure her home was impeccably clean and full of unconditional love.
We will carry her spirit with us every day, the values she instilled, the lessons she taught, and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy will live on in our hearts, in the strength we carry, and in the memories we will cherish forever.
