Bettie Devall Pruett
Bettie Devall Pruett, of Palm Bay, Florida died peacefully at Vitas Hospice on October 25, 2026. She was 88. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend; her laughter, smile, silly pranks and comforting hugs will be deeply missed.
Bettie was born on August 3, 1938 in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, and graduated from Ponchatoula High. On September 16, 1961, she was wed to Randall Pruett, whose friend and Bettie’s brother, Preston Devall, played “Match Maker.” She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Reverend Randy Pruett, for forty-six years. She was a valued member of Central Baptist Church, Melbourne, Florida, since 1985.
She enjoyed writing poetry, and with encouragement from her daughter, she wrote her autobiography. Quite an accomplishment. Bettie enjoyed reading mystery novels, gardening, watching and attending LSU, FSU and UF football games. Bettie loved everything coconut. She sent birthday cards to everyone she knew. Shopping was her favorite hobby, always dressing professionally, even to go to the grocery store. She was also known to be fiercely competitive in playing card games. Highly opinionated, she let you know what she thought and believed.
Family was very important to Bettie, being surrounded by her sisters, brothers, her children, and her church family, and would visit her siblings on a yearly basis, and staying in touch via their Round Robin Letter.
Through her many working roles, Bettie made a positive influence as an Admissions Counselor at Fernwood Junior High in Biloxi, a secretary for the Seminole Baptist Association in Sanford, Florida, a church secretary in Gibsonton, Florida, and an Administrative Secretary for Florida Tech.
She would often gather with “the Lunch Bunch” for meals out or to play Dominos and would sing in her church choir.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Devall of Denham Springs, LA; her children Angela J. Pruett (Palm Bay, FL), Laurene L. Pruett (Palm Bay, FL) and Stephen R. Pruett (Laura Cox) of Hollsopple, PA; and one grandson Nicholas Lee Pruett of Torrance, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Pruett; her grandson, Jacob Pruett; her siblings: Dorothy Pentes, Preston Devall and John Devall.
Visitation will be Friday October 30, 2026 from 2:30-3:00 with a service at 3:00 at Central Baptist Church, Melbourne, Florida. Burial will be Monday, November 2, 2026 at 2:30pm at “Garden of Memories” in Webster, Florida.
