Beverly Couch Burns of Melbourne, Florida passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on March 27, 2025 at the age of 80. She was born to the late Cleo Everett Couch and Mary Beatrice Couch on July 20, 1944 in Waxahachie, Texas. She grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Beverly was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Jerry Eugene Burns, who died May 17, 2008. She and Jerry were married on June 25, 1966 in Dallas, Texas. Jerry served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1991 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his Air Force career as they moved from state to state making lifelong friends, Beverly was a homemaker, devoted mother, and active with military spouse duties. She and Jerry were always members of a Baptist church near where they lived.
Beverly started with the IT company Computer Task Group in 1990 leaving only for a few years to work at the governmental contractor ENSCO. She held various administrative positions while at Computer Task Group, but her most important was being their “office mom”. She retired from Computer Task Group in 2016, and she spent the last years of her life enjoying local restaurants, shows at The King Center, Melbourne Civic Theatre and Alfie Silva’s performances at his The Tangiers Florida theater. She found much joy in spending time at her beloved farm in Texas and visiting with various relatives, especially her cousin Tommy Jack Raymond who was so kind in watching over the farm for her.
Beverly is survived by her daughter Benay Burns Moeder (James) of Orlando, Florida; brother Reverend Billie John Couch (Margaret) of San Antonio, Texas; and sister-in-law, Diane Burns of Mabank, Texas. Beverly was fortunate to have a group of close friends and caring neighbors who were always there for her, and she cherished those relationships. She was especially close to her longtime friend Laurel Powell who was like a daughter to her.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday April 2, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne, Florida. In Mabank, Texas, a calling is planned for Tuesday April 8, 2025 from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. at the Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home, with interment at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
