John was co-owner of Detect Alert Alarm Systems in Melbourne.
He is survived by his children, Roy Black, Mary McClarey, Roger Black, Sarah Ellis and Sarah Fortier; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his wife of 51 years Frances S. Black and sister, Dorothy Proffer
A private family service was held.

I am so grateful to have had the chance to know Uncle John and to be part of this wonderful family. It's hard to imagine a more fitting day for someone who loved America and the Fourth of July than to be remembered on our nation's 250th birthday.
