Jean B. Holmes
Jean B. Holmes passed away Wednesday, June 7th at age 95 after a full life of family, love, and joy. She was born in Leeds, Alabama, and worked as a nurse’s aid in the Leeds hospital until marrying Johnny Holmes and moving to Melbourne in 1955. She and Johnny centered their lives around raising 3 sons (John, Wayne, and Russell) actively supporting them through football, baseball, band, and church. For band they ran a concession stand for 9 years and spent 6 years with parade floats being built in their garage. They hosted church youth activities, including a Sadie Hawkins party at their home. As the kids grew older Jean volunteered as a Pink Lady at what is now known as Holmes Regional Medical Center. She also worked as secretary in the family insurance business.
Grandchildren became her greatest joy in life, devoting time to boating on the river, playing monopoly, and eating at the counter at Pop’s Casbah. That joy continued with the arrival of her great-grandchildren.
There will be a gathering at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral Home on Tuesday June 13th at 10am, followed by a graveside service at 11.
