On April 25, 2024, our mother, Margaret Haynes, passed peacefully to begin her new adventure in life. Although it is sad to share the news of her passing, we are so grateful to know she was able to live a purposeful and independent life for over 98 years.
Born in Syracuse, New York on September 1, 1925 as the youngest of her 4 siblings, she was called ‘Baber’ and that was the beginning of the various nicknames for Margaret Sybil Tuttle. She was best known by friends and family with names that suited her persona…Tut, Miss Daisy, Mama Lady, Aunt Marg, Grandma and Hemi being the most well-known nicknames. Our dear Dad, her husband of almost 50 years, who passed many years ago, never knew what to call her.
Along with multiple names, she had equally as many occupations…ballroom dance teacher, school librarian, substitute teacher and audio-visual specialist where she was able to create on film, humorous news shows for the elementary school students. Her many years as a realtor in Florida earned her several awards as top producer in real estate sales. Perhaps her favorite role began in the hospitality industry when she decided to turn the family camp in the Adirondack Mountains into a B&B during the summer followed by managing The Riptide RV park in Key Largo FL in the winter. Her last endeavor was becoming the proud owner/operator of a quaint Victorian B&B in Old Forge, New York. She began this career at the age of 84 receiving rave reviews from her guests. After almost a decade in this role, she relinquished her 2 ADK homes and returned to the Melbourne area of Florida where she had resided in various homes since 1957. However, that was not the end of her moves, she purchased a lake home on Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia to enjoy during the summer season. She was well loved in that environment- near her family, enjoying new friendships and engaging in activities that kept her happy and youthful.
We, her daughters, are so grateful for all the friends and family members who treasured their relationship with her. She kept us laughing with her humorous antics. She leaves behind the two of us, her daughters and their spouses, six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, beloved family members and special friends who will miss her dearly.
Her beloved Scottie dog, Middie, was as quirky as she was. They made a wonderful team together and we know that little doggie is first in line to greet her as she enters her next phase of life beyond…where she without a doubt will share her lively nature and continue to inspire us as we keep her in our memories.
A small family gathering will be held in Old Forge, New York to celebrate her well lived life.
