Patricia “Pat” Brady

Born December 4, 1933, in Lafayette, Louisiana
Passed September 19, 2024 in Palm Bay, Florida

Patricia “Pat” Brady, born in Lafayette, Louisiana on December 4, 1933, the only child of Samuel Cooper and Camille Donlon Grunewald, passed away September 19, 2024. She attended St. Mary’s High School in Austin, Texas; University of Texas at Austin, University of Madrid, Spain, and Georgetown University for her BS in Foreign Services, finishing at Georgetown with her Masters in 1961.

While working in the Library of Congress, she met and later married her husband of 48 years, Robert S. “Bob” Brady, and had three children. Always one to have a project, Pat volunteered at the kids’ schools, her beloved League of Women Voters, both local and national chapters, the Belfast Children’s Program, Fairfax Co. Group Residential Facilities Committee, and traveled extensively for the American Bar Association. She was published in the 2003 edition Who’s Who of America.

Pat loved to sharpen her wit and debate skills with anyone willing to enjoy a little verbal jousting. We teased that she could finish a crossword puzzle with one eye tied behind her back. After whipping through the rest of the paper, you might find her reading, sewing, knitting or doing needlework. She was eminently organized and was able to get things done. Pat and Bob made many memories traveling in and outside of the USA. She had many circles of good friends. She loved and cared for her family and her Catholic faith, until the thief Alzheimers came along. Though she couldn’t remember much, she remained happy go lucky to the end.

Pat was predeceased by her husband Bob and daughter Sheila Barth.

Survivors include her son Mike (Abby) Brady of Austin, Texas; daughter Mary (David) DeVerter of Indialantic, Florida; son-in-law Kevin Barth, and grandchildren Stratton, Pierce and Camille Barth, Olivia and Jason Brady, Martin, Patrick and Magee DeVerter. A Mass will be held at Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, Virginia on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 9:30 am, followed by a reception at a local restaurant. The burial will follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eden’s Garden Assisted Living Facility (Palm Bay, Florida), League of Women Voters, or Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research:

I met Pat and her family many years ago. Our conversations stand out in my memories of her. She contributed wit, diversity, and for me education. The memory of our contacts leaves me with feelings of warmth and gratitude.

I met Pat late in life, but she always impressed me as a progressive female through her League of Women Voters roles. We did complete quite a few crossword puzzles together! She will be missed. I can't make the funeral as I will be out of town the last week of November. Condolences to the family for their loss.
