The memories growing up in Laila Park with our close friends and neighbors, The Padgett's, are precious. My mom and Carolyn were best buds. The 4 Padgett kids and 4 Stevenson kids were always up to something. Bud was our principal at Meadowlane Elementary. He taught me how to water ski during one of our many boating outings. I vividly remember him singing and playing the piano during my visits to their house. Mr. Padgett, as we called him because we were kids then, was a fine man. Education was of the utmost importance in his eyes. I remember being in 4th grade and was sent out of the room to stand in the hall. I was a shy kid and don't remember what I did to deserve that punishment. The principal, Mr. Padgett, walked by and asked why I was there. Through tears, I tried to explain. As he walked away with a grin on his face, he told me I could go back in the room. The things we remember. I am saddened to hear of his passing and pray the hearts of his family and loved ones will find peace through God's Grace. I will miss you, Mr. Padgett.

Mr. Padgett gave me my first teaching job at Palm Bay High School in 1983 and I've been there ever since. I was fortunate enough to see him again this past fall as he was inducted into our Pirate Hall of Fame. It gave me the opportunity to thank him for all that he did for our students, P.B.H.S. and Brevard Public Schools. I will always be grateful that he was my Principal as I began my teaching career. With sympathy and best wishes to the Padgett Family.
