Dawne Gail Kaleel Goodge, 85, passed peacefully on May 14, 2023, to be with her Heavenly Father. Born June 6, 1937, in Jacksonville, FL, to Cecil and Gladys Smith, Dawne was a servant of God, devoted to faith, and cherished member of Fruit Cove and Eau Gallie Baptist Church.
Dawne’s life was a testament to her commitment to humility, gratitude, and respect for God. She was a passionate educator and taught school for 25 years, shaping the lives of countless children who benefited from her caring and patient approach.
Dawne’s love for God’s creation was evident in her travels with her first husband, Eddie, camping across the US on many occasions. After Eddie’s passing, God brought Dawne and Pastor Freeman Goodge together where they continued a lifelong ministry, spreading God’s Word in places such as Anguilla, Ireland, and the Philippines.
Dawne’s education reflected her devotion to excellence, graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1955. She then earned her Bachelor degree in Education from the University of North Florida’s Charter Class in 1974 and a Masters degree in Education from Nova University.
Dawne is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Mike and Susan Diane Kaleel, Niman Lamar and Delores Gazaleh Kaleel, David Wayne and Lesa Ochab Kaleel, and her three grandsons, Christopher James Kaleel, Edward Richard Kaleel (Katie), and James Andrew Kaleel (Helen). She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Edward Mike Kaleel, her parents, Cecil and Gladys Smith, brother Wayne Smith, and second husband of 12 years, Freeman Goodge.
A Memorial Service and Luncheon will be held at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 SR 13, St Johns FL on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 10:00 am. Gifts can be made in Dawne’s memory to Lottie Moon Missions Offering fund at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, to honor her unwavering faith and commitment to serving others.
