George Hennessy
George Hennessy left his earthly life on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at his home in Melbourne, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife Josephine in 2013. They were married for 58 years. He is survived by his son, Michael Hennessy, Tammy Miller, and Lisa Gemmill (Dan) and three grandchildren, Dathan Miller, Aaron Miller and Sarah Maceda (Pedro), a sister Beatrice Pearson and special friend Judy Walker. He was also blessed to have seven great grandchildren.
He was born in Danvers, Minnesota. He came from a large family with six sisters, five sisters, Lenore, Beverly, Marian, Susan, and Norma Jean have also gone to eternal rest. After graduating from High School he joined the United States Air Force. During his 4 years of service he met his wife and married. After leaving the Air Force he moved to Melbourne, Florida with his wife and worked at the US Space Facility Cape Canaveral. He then worked for Radiation and this started a long life of adventure, living, working and traveling abroad. Radiation became Harris Corporation where he was an engineer for 33yrs. After leaving Harris he worked for Bendix Corp and another adventure. ensued. He was fully retired to his home in Indian Harbor Beach by 1999.
Throughout his life he was a devout Lutheran. He served on the board of elders and many committees. He often helped with the upkeep and welfare of all the churches he attended. He enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren and his seven great grandchildren. Over his life he was very athletic playing baseball and bowling in leagues as well as golfing. He especially enjoyed traveling to his home state of Minnesota in the summer for fishing. Over his desk in his home is a poem which is a fitting closing to his long life of 86 years.
I pray that I may live to fish until my dying day,
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray,
when in the Lords great landing net
and peacefully asleep
then in his mercy I be judged
big enough to keep!
Funeral services will be held at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, 5550 Faith Drive, Rockledge, Florida on Saturday, September 12th at 11 am. There will be no reception after the funeral due to the coronavirus and we ask that all that attend please wear a face mask. The church practices social distancing.
