Victoria R. Slis

Born September 3, 1943 in Washington, DC
Departed December 31, 2023 in Melbourne, Florida

With profound sorrow, the Robert A. Slis Family announces the passing of our dearly loved Victoria R. Slis, who transitioned peacefully on December 31, 2023, in Melbourne, Florida.
Born September 3, 1943, to Reynold Lee Mason and Elizabeth Carol Zschiesche Mason of Arlington, Viginia. She grew up with her sister Penny Mason Medley and brother Timothy Lee Mason.

She attended Annandale High School in Northern Virginia, graduating in 1961. Vicky furthered her education at Mary Washington College, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a minor in Spanish. She started her career as an art teacher at Gar-Field High School, in Woodbridge, Virginia, and later became a Sunday school teacher in Picayune, Mississippi.

Vicky and USAF 2nd Lt. Bob Slis of Quantico, Virginia, were married on February 4th, 1967 at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. They spent their first three years living in Seville, Spain, where they started their family. Weekends were spent strolling with their children in the city, and nearby towns. When on leave, they vacationed in several Mediterranean countries. Vicky developed a great appreciation for Spanish architecture and interior design. They left San Pablo AFB, Spain, for McGuire AFB in New Jersey, then spent years in Virginia, California, and Mississippi before settling in Melbourne, Florida in 2000. Perhaps, not just by coincidence, the home she selected was a stunning Spanish style house with a tile roof and pretty lake nearby.

She was a talented painter, focusing on still life, landscapes, and portraits. She left behind many beautiful pieces of art which will be cherished for generations. Her famous yellow cake with fudge icing and Christmas bonbon cookies, along with other unique recipes will continue to be part of family gatherings for years to come. Her selfless, unwavering positive attitude and caring nature towards all will be greatly missed.

Vicky is survived by her husband Bob Slis, four children Peter Slis (Dana Slis), Barbara Tomchuk (Gary Tomchuk), Karen Vaughan (Mike Vaughan) and predeceased son John Slis. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren Mason, Brodie, Casey, Julia, Brooke, and Erica.

All of those she loved and touched deeply please join us celebrating her life on Friday, February 9th at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US 1, Rockledge, Florida at 10:30 a.m. A catered reception will follow at 2425 McGraw Avenue, Melbourne, Florida.
