Miguel A. Velez Jr., born October 27, 1971, in West Chester, passed away on April 29, 2026.
From a young age, Miguel had a presence that naturally drew people to him. Whether he was playing baseball, dancing, or simply spending time with friends, he brought energy and joy wherever he went. He was a talented baseball player whose left-handed pitches made it difficult for batters to keep up with him. Miguel formed many lifelong friendships throughout his years and carried that same warmth and charisma with him throughout his life.
Miguel fiercely loved the Lord and dedicated his life to his faith and family. It was his vision and desire to homeschool his four children, a decision that reflected his deep commitment to being present in their lives and guiding them with love, wisdom, and purpose. For the last seven years, Miguel faithfully served with Strong Tower Ministries (a jiu jitsu/ Bible group) volunteering with children’s ministry, and growing in the adult ministry.
Miguel was warm, witty, logical, and full of life. He loved making people laugh through jokes and playful pranks, and he could sing along to nearly every classic song ever played.
He had a competitive spirit and always strived to be the best version of himself, whether during a simple board game or in the challenges life placed before him. He loved basketball and was always ready to step onto the court no matter who challenged him. At 44 years old, Miguel competed in the Savage Race obstacle competition and earned 47th place out of more than 3,600 contestants — a reflection of his determination, strength, and perseverance. Remarkably, just three months before his passing, he defeated his eldest son in a game of 21 despite battling his illness.
Miguel was also an excellent cook who appreciated the details and artistry of preparing food. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, constantly learning new skills and taking on any job necessary without complaint. He carried heavy burdens quietly and faithfully, always placing the needs of others before his own.
Those who knew Miguel will remember his kindness, loyalty, and protective nature. He trained regularly and was always prepared to defend and care for the people he loved. His loving personality and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Miguel leaves behind his beloved wife, Janelle; his daughters, Savannah, her husband, Antonio, and their son, Oliver, as well as Mikayla; and his sons, Garrison and Averrin. Miguel is joined in Heaven by his eldest grandson Eliza. He is also survived by his parents, Miguel and Mirta; his sister, Marisol, her husband, David, and their children, Isabella and Victoria.
A Service will be held at Brownlie – Maxwell Funeral Home of Friday May 15th at 6pm.
Miguel will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by his strength, humor, faith, and love.
