Pete Hornbeck passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 79 with his loving wife Nancy, twin daughters, Dama Vance and Donna Self, husband John Self and granddaughter Nevaeh by his side in Indialantic, Florida on April 21, 2022.
He was born in Beckley, West Virginia on July 20, 1942. He was raised in Sophia, West Virginia and graduated from Sophia High School in 1960. He attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He had an associate degree from Beckley College. A Bachelor degree from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was an instructor at Beckley College Mortuary School. He was owner/ operator of Loy Funeral Home. He was a member of the Wardensville United Methodist Church and the Wardensville Lions Club. He was also and Avid WVU fan. He was a member of the Azan Shrine and the South Brevard Shrine Club in Melbourne, Florida, Orlando Scottish Rite, The Brevard Masonic Lodge and The Canaveral Order of the Eastern Star.
Pete is survived by his wife of 59 years Nancy Hornbeck, his daughter Dama Vance and husband Jimmy, daughter Donna Self and husband John. Grandchildren Michael Sears II (Casey Brown), Kristina Sears (Lester Lutrell), Courtney Miller (Derek Miller), Kevin Sears, Daniel Vance (Jodie Vance), Chelsea Flannery (Matthew Flannery), Nevaeh Dressler (Brody Weese), Johnny Self, Charity Greenwalt. Great grandchildren, Trenton, Michael, Evan, Luke, Kayleigh, Mackenzie, Skylar, Colton, Sterling, Elsie, Brooks and cherished sister Randa Workman.
A memorial service will be held in Wardensville, West Virginia, date and time pending.

I hadn't seen Pete for a long time, but this photo immediately made me think of his dad, who was also a great guy, and maybe looks a little like his grandfather, my high school principal while Pete and I were at SHS together. We were close friends with Bill and Randa for a long time, and of course, before that Randa and I had some good times in high school, since she dated one of my good friends. I have many fond memories of the Hornbecks from school and church. (Did you know there's a Hornbeck Road in Morgantown)?

remember Pete as a fun loving fellow. His smile could win a thousand hearts, and his service in his work was extraordinary. We will miss him here, but see him again one day in Heaven where no sorry or pain can enter there.
