Barbara Frances Marchand, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on March 13, 1946, in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Barbara’s life was a tapestry of love and laughter, woven together by her strong family ties and her vibrant spirit.
Barbara was the cherished daughter of Fran and Wayne Wentz, who preceded her in death, along with her precious grandson, Jared Bohannon. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Kimberly Powers Berkemeier (Roy Berkemeier), Kevin Powers (Pamela Powers), and Kelly Powers Druwez (Daniel Druwez). Her grandchildren—Ryan Powers, Alexandra Powers, Kolby Powers, and Andrew Berkemeier—brought immense joy to her life, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in their hearts. Barbara is also survived by her brother, Douglas Wentz (Sandra Wentz), and a host of nieces, a nephew, and cousins who will miss her dearly.
Growing up, Barbara was a bright student who graduated from Melbourne High School in 1964. Her passion for beauty and creativity led her to pursue a profession in cosmetology, where she honed her skills and developed a deep love for her craft. For 53 years, Barbara was a proud business owner, running My Place Hair Salon “The Shop,” where she touched the lives of countless clients. In addition to her salon, she dedicated nearly 40 years to selling Avon.
Barbara’s zest for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests. A shopping adventure to Bealls was always a highlight. In her younger years, she could often be found enjoying the camaraderie of her bowling leagues. As time went on, she found herself trying her luck at the casinos or buying scratch offs at the local 7-11. She had a playful sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. Known for her sweet tooth, Barbara delighted in indulging in orange soda, Krispy Kreme donuts, Sugar Babies, Uncrustables, and pecan pie.
The last 27 months of Barbara’s life were spent at the Life Care Center of Melbourne, where she received unwavering care and compassion. A special thank you also goes to Lori McGarry, Barbara’s devoted personal caregiver for the past four years. Lori became much more than a caregiver; she became family.
Barbara will be remembered for her independent spirit, her love for her family, and her ability to find humor in the simplest of pleasures. Her legacy of laughter, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest in peace, Mom—you are deeply missed and forever cherished.
A Celebration of Barbara’s Life is being planned by her children. A date and time will be announced to family and friends soon.
