Theodore B. Moorhead, Jr. (“Ted”)
Theodore B. Moorhead, Jr. (“Ted”), age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Bay on December 14, 2024.
Born on February 9, 1932 in Miami, Florida, Ted was the oldest son to Ted, Sr. and Emily Moorhead. Following his graduation from Miami High School, he married his late wife, Ann. Together they had three children, Christine, Brian, and Carey. Ted and Ann were married for 59 years.
Ted moved to Melbourne in 1961 and served as pastor for Central Baptist Church. He later served as Administrative Assistant to Senator Bill Nelson and became one of the founding members of the Marine Resources Council, focusing on the preservation of the Indian River Lagoon. Ted’s passion for the Indian River Lagoon lives on through his legacy at the Ted Moorhead Lagoon House in Palm Bay.
Ted also had a passion for fishing and he loved his morning walks along the Indian River with his friends and dancing with his companion, Betty. He was also an avid poet and inspired thousands of people with his writings and words of wisdom.
Ted is survived by his children, Christine Filiberto and Carey Moorhead, son-in-law, Frank Filiberto, M.D., daughter-in-law, Danna Moorhead, his sister, Emily Jo Smith, and grandchildren, Jason, Jake, Glenn, Peter, Alexa, and Cassie, and his 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Brian Moorhead.
A celebration of Ted’s life will be held at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home on Sunday, December 22 at 1pm.
