Sandra Kay Peterson, 79, of West Melbourne passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. She was surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.

Sandra was born on July 7, 1945 in Denver, Colordao, the daughter of Giles Eugene McDowall Jr and Ina (Allen) McDowall. She grew up as the oldest of nine in a household filled with love and laughter, and her spirit of generosity and compassion touched all who knew her. Sandra’s smile was infectious, and her ability to bring joy to even the most challenging moments was a testament to her remarkable strength of character.

Sandra grew up on the family farm in Carson, North Dakota where she also attended Carson High School. Once Sandra graduated from high school she proudly joined the United States Air Force. Sandra enjoyed travelling during her 8 years in the Air Force having gone to places like Alabama, California and her favorite, the Philippines.

Once out of the Air Force, Sandra took a job as a medical technologist working in Hot Springs, South Dakota. While working in Hot Springs she met her husband Theodore (Ted) Peterson. They were married on November 16, 1974. Together they bought a portion of Ted’s family’s farm/ranch, where they enjoyed working, improving and growing the ranch into their own all while continuing to work full time.

As a mother, Sandra was a constant source of warmth and guidance. She leaves behind her beloved son, Theodore (Ted), his wife Heather and three grandchildren as well as stepdaughters, stepson, numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, each of whom she cherished deeply. Sandra’s nurturing nature extended beyond her immediate family, offering kindness and support to everyone she encountered. Her home was always open to those in need of a listening ear, and her ability to offer wisdom and comfort made her a pillar in the lives of those lucky enough to know her.
Sandra was known for her strong work ethic and devotion to family. Whether spending time with her son and grandchildren, or creating lasting memories with her extended family, she made every moment count. She will be remembered not only for her devotion as a mother and grandmother but also for her unwavering ability to bring people together with love and grace.

Sandra is preceded in death by Ted F. Peterson (husband); her parents, brother, sister, step daughter, and son-in-law. She is survived by her son, Ted G. Peterson (Heather) and grandchildren JoHannah, Hayden, and Noah. She is also survived by six siblings, step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss her dearly.


A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held on January 18, 2025 at Presbyterian Church of the Good Shepherd at 11 am Eastern time in Melbourne, Florida, where friends and family can gather to honor her remarkable life.

Sandra’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. She will be remembered for her generosity, her love and loyalty to family, and her ability to make the world a brighter place, one person at a time.
