Aletha May Rector
Aletha May Rector a renowned Melbourne Sculpturer passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026.
Aletha Rector was a Florida native. She learned the basics of clay while residing on the island of Okinawa. Years later and a continent away, she had developed these early lessons into her own unique style and method.
Aletha sculpted each creature in clay and kin-fires, the pit-fires them to achieve their unusual color and texture. Aletha was instrumental in forming the non-profit Art Affirmative in the Eau Gallie Arts District, housed in the Fifth Avenue Art Gallery.
Aletha’s love of nature inspired lifelike and whimsical creatures with unique expressions that earned the adoration of many. Aletha would spend countless early hours on the beach to observe the annual turtle hatches to capture nature in progress.
Aletha is survived by her Son and Daughter, their spouses, 2 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons. She has left a legacy of art and love in her wake.
