Julianne Kathryn Martensen (“Pippy McDonnell”), 75, of Vero Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, wife, mentor, and friend to many.

Julianne was born on January 18, 1951 in Port Chester, New York to John and Jane (Lynch) McDonnell. The youngest of four, she was raised with her siblings in Larchmont, New York where she spent most of her life. She attended St. Augustine’s grammar school in Larchmont and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1968. Julianne earned her Bachelor of Arts in English at The College of New Rochelle and developed a career that was as unique as she was. She spent time as an elementary school teacher, as well as a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing. In the mid-80’s she pursued work in the corporate sector and eventually retired as an accomplished executive search consultant from Heidrich & Struggles in New York City. In 2001 she moved to Guilford, Connecticut, with her beloved husband, Nick Binghieri. They later retired full time to Vero Beach, Florida with their many friends.

Most knew Julianne by her nickname “Pippy.” Her siblings also had their own special nickname for her: “Tweeters.” No matter the name people knew her by, she left a memorable impression on all. A fiercely independent woman who took great pride in her role as a dedicated mother and grandmother, Julianne was quick to make friends wherever she went and was renowned for giving solid advice and unwavering support.

In her retirement, Julianne took lessons and discovered a deep passion and talent for painting. She enjoyed opportunities to showcase her work at local art shows and won an award for her beautiful rendition of Delicate Arch. Alongside her husband, Nick, she loved walking on the beach, attending musicals at the Vero Beach Theater, and visiting the comedy club. She also spent time at the outdoor shooting range, treasured her garden, loved to cook, and made it a point to swim in the pool every day. Finally, Julianne took great pride and care in her role as Guardian Ad Litem for youth in Florida’s foster care system. In this capacity, she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the well-being of the young people she served, effectively balancing advocacy with her deep-rooted values and connections to family and community.

Julianne is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her brothers, John and Jim McDonnell. She is survived by her husband, Nick Binghieri; her children, Jimmy (Gwynyth) Isaacson, Carie (Nick) Ruggiano, and Robert (Lena) Martensen; and her sister, Jane (Bo) Hayner. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jovanni, Dante, Adia, Hagen, and Jerrylianne; sisters-in-law, Joyce and Gerry McDonnell; many nieces, nephews, cousins; her lifelong friend, Sam Atwell; a multitude of cherished friendships; and her furry companion, Clancy. Those who knew Julianne (Pippy) know that she loved fiercely and unconditionally and always showed up in times of need for her loved ones. Her presence and passion for life will be deeply missed.

In lieu of an immediate service, a private Celebration of Life will take place on June 13 in Mamaroneck, New York. Details will be announced once finalized.

May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields, And, until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Carrie, Jimmy, Robert, Nick & families, I’m so sorry for your loss. I remember your mom fondly - many memories on the farm, summers, holidays, even time at Aunt Babes and Uncle Bob’s when we came down to NYC…. Though it’s been years, we recently re-connected through social media (one of the few things I love about that!). She was full of joy and warmth as always. She will be missed. Praying for you all as you grieve. Sending a hug from afar.
