Martin Thomas Fahy

Born on September 25, 1932 in Galway, Ireland
Departed June 7, 2023 in Melbourne, Florida

Martin Thomas Fahy (Pop) was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on June 7, 2023, in Melbourne Florida at the age of 90. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his unwavering faith in God and his immense courage in facing life challenges with grace. Often called “the fighter”, Martin came out as a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Martin was born in Galway, Ireland to parents James and Barbara on September 25, 1932. At age 24, Martin bravely immigrated to the United States where he met the love of his life Mary. The couple made a lifelong commitment in marriage to one another on October 28, 1961, at Sacred Heart Church in Hybridge, New York.

The two lived in the Bronx on City Island for 32 years, becoming a staple in the community. Being intricately woven into the congregation of St. Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, members of the American Legion, owners of the Elbow Room bar for 6 years, and operating concessions at The Morris Yacht and Beach Club; the foundation of friendships that would last a lifetime was built. It was on City Island that Martin created his legacy by raising his four children with his soul mate by his side.

Martin was an assiduous man who never complained while providing for his family for generations to come. He retired from a 20-year career working for the MTA in 1994. Martin and his wife moved to Florida in 2000 where he spent his retirement traveling, making everyone around him laugh, and creating unforgettable memories with his family.

As a devout catholic, Martin blessed his family with the life lessons and solid morals so they can prosper long after his departure.

Martin is preceded in death by his second son Thomas, his daughter-in-law AnnMarie, his brother Sean, and his parents.

He leaves behind his loving wife Mary, two sons, James and Paul, his daughter Barbara, his daughter-in-law Monica, his brother Anthony, his sister Bernadette, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as lifelong friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3780 S Hwy A1A, Melbourne Beach, FL. 1:00 PM

With the help of God, we will meet again, and until then, may God hold you in the palm of his hands.
