Roger Dale Rhodes, Sr. of Melbourne, Florida passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Melbourne Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida, at the age of 75 years.
He was born November 9, 1948, at Cambridge, Ohio and was raised primarily in Fort Pierce, Florida, attending school there until he enlisted in the United States Army.
Roger is survived by his life partner Billie A. Pierce of 17 years; his sons Roger D. Rhodes, Jr. of Melbourne, Florida; Trampas Duke Rhodes; daughter Shellie Mae Rhodes; grandchildren and great grandchildren of Louisiana. His second family is Holly M. Freer, Cassandra Freer both of Florida, Angel C. Freer and Jeffrey E. Freer, II of Ohio and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roger was preceded in death by his father Delbert (Curley) Rhodes and mother Bernice (Bay) Rhodes along with 3 sisters and a brother all from Indiana.
Roger entered military service at the age of 16 where he served in the United States Army for 22 years. He earned the rank of (E-7) Master Sergeant. While serving, he continued his education receiving his high school diploma and some college courses. Roger’s military service consisted of two tours in South Viet Nam and tours in Germany, Korea, and various other places.
Roger was a member of the American Legion Department of Florida, J.W. Mathers, Jr. Post 163 in Melbourne, Florida. He was a past District 12 Vice Commander, Past Post Commander of Stephen N. Gladwin Post 40 in Fort Pierce, Florida and past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion in White City, Post 358. Roger was also a life member of AMVETS Post 34 in Palm Bay, Florida.
Roger loved children and his favorite charities were St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and No Child Goes Hungry. He loved playing cards and watching tv, especially WWE (wrestling). He always had time for his family and friends. Roger was very loved.
