Steven “Steve” Earl Scott

Steven “Steve” Earl Scott was born in Cookeville, TN on August 16, 1949, and was the third child of Andrew Earl Scott and Rachel Stephenson Scott. He had two older brothers, David Scott (who predeceased him) and James (married to Marie) Scott and two younger siblings, Susan (married to Jerry) Tucker and Bobby (married to Donna) Scott. Due to Andrew’s military career, the family traveled all over the world, living in many different states and countries, but they always felt their roots were in Mississippi.
Steve received a golf scholarship to Mississippi State University, where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. In 1971, while still in college, he was blessed with his son Greg. With a low draft number during the Vietnam War, he enlisted in the US Air Force but did not have to deploy as he had sole custody of Greg. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he went on to work civil service for the government as a telemetry engineer, first at Keesler Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, then at Patrick Air Force Base in Satellite Beach, and later for NASA at Cape Canaveral. While working at Keesler, he traveled the world working at various US military owned telemetry sites, most of which were on mountaintops. He loved to tell stories about those travels and adventures to so many beautiful places. At Patrick and with NASA, he became involved with the space program, which fostered another interest that he loved to share with people as he traveled around the world.
Shortly after moving to Melbourne, he met Shena, his beloved wife of 35 years. They met on a blind date in 1989, and literally within a week, Steve was offered the opportunity to do an assignment in the Philippines. He had applied for the position at the urging of his son Greg (who loved to surf) and, having just met, Shena and Steve agreed he should take the offer. Little did they know that by the time he left several months later, they would be soulmates. So, they embarked on a long-distance relationship (with lots of fun side adventures in the Philippines and Hawaii) for nearly two years before Steve returned to Melbourne and they married on July 27, 1991. In marrying, he became (the world’s best) stepdad to Shena’s children, Mark and Jenni Boyd. He loved and treated them as if they were his own but always with the greatest respect for their relationship with their own father. As a single father himself, “Earl,” as Jenni always called him, was a wonderful role model of a modern-day father years ahead of his time.
A few years later, Greg went on a surfing trip to Costa Rica, fell in love and decided to stay. Greg has built a beautiful extended and blended family down there, with six children, now mostly young adults, who have always treasured their many visits per year with Grandpa. Grandpa is survived by his son Greg (and his wife Dania), his grandchildren Kalani (and his wife Nicole), Alani, and Keilana, as well as Dania’s children Mark and Mikaela, and his adopted grandson Jeymark. They were his absolute pride and joy.
Between visits to Costa Rica, Steve loved to play golf as often as he could, both at Suntree Country Club and with the Treasure Coast Senior Tour, where he was still nearly a scratch golfer at aged 76. He also relished sharing G-Pa duties with Gigi (Shena). Whether he was rescuing drones off the roof, teaching about different kinds of pennies, or sharing his best jokes, he was always patient, loving and fun. Earl/G-Pa is survived by Jenni as well as Mark, his wife Jessie, and their two boys, Trevor and Aubrey. They were also sources of tremendous pride and joy for Steve.
Meanwhile, Shena and Steve shared a love for travel, a passion that they lived to the fullest, always planning their next adventure to some remote corner of the globe. Whether sailing on a catamaran, or a multi-city trek, they loved to plan and find the best places wherever they went. Yet, Steve’s happiest place of all may have been his own house. Nothing thrilled him more than being at home, cooking way too much delicious food for family and friends, cuddling with his precious dog Lacy before she passed, smoking cigars with his buddies and watching the same shows and movies multiple times over.
Steve left this world on August 14, 2026. He was an amazing friend to many and an incredibly supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend. His gentle manner, kind perspective and solid sense of humor will be missed by many, but most of all by the love of his life, Shena. May he rest in peace and bring half as many smiles to the angels in heaven as he has brought to his family and friends here on earth.
