Departed on September 12, 2021 in Indialantic, Florida

Anthony Inserillo, MD, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 2, 1936 to Anthony and Rose Inserillo. Anthony received his medical degree from the prestigious University of Bologna in Italy. As a Board-Certified physician, he established a private practice in Smithtown, NY; however, after weathering many harsh winters there, he made the decision to move to sunny Florida. As one of the first OB/GYN physicians in the area, he established Hibiscus OB/GYN in Brevard County in 1977. He was a respected and revered member of the medical staff at Holmes Regional Medical Center for 30 years, where he served as Chairman of the OB/GYN Department in addition to serving on the Hospital Board. His many contributions to his profession were honored by Health First’s Distinguished Emeritus Award. He was a beloved doctor in the community as well, voted Best OB/GYN in Brevard County, known for his professionalism, his ready smile, and his quick wit. His service and involvement in the community through the years also included serving on the Board of Southeast Bank, and membership at EGYC and Orchid Island.

Anthony met his wife Gloria on a blind date and it truly was love at first sight. They were married in January 1984 and welcomed their beloved daughter Christina on July 21, 1985. He cherished any time spent with his family, especially in the places he loved – Italy, Disney, the Highlands, NC where he was a member of the Highlands Country Club and enjoyed playing croquet and golf, and on his farm in West Virginia. Throughout his life, he spent countless hours watching his accomplished equestrienne daughter, Christina compete at various horse shows throughout the U.S. Carrying on this tradition, Anthony could recently be seen cheering on his grandchildren, Sophia (age 6) and Anthony (age 5) compete at shows on their pony, Cooper. He will be dearly missed by his beloved family who are comforted to know Anthony is with Chrissy in Heaven.

Anthony is predeceased by his daughter, Christina Inserillo Reyes and brothers Charlie Inserillo and Robert Inserillo. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Gloria, his son in law Junior Reyes, his grandchildren Sophia and Anthony Reyes, and “sister”, Marlene Carras.

A private memorial Mass for the family will be celebrated in his honor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to: Health First Foundation for Health First Cancer Institute, 1350 S Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL 32901.

I worked with Dr I as an RN at the hospital where he always “borrowed” my pens 😊. He joked with everyone and we would laugh about how he never remembered to bring a pen. My first NP role was at Hibiscus. We shared a hallway and every day was fun. As an expert physician and mentor, he taught me so much about gynecology. As a fun loving man, we shared many laughs and if any of us had a bad day, there was always a hug. As an added bonus, I learned quite a bit about the stock market from him. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. His goodness to me will always be remembered. My prayers for Gloria and all of his family.
