Paul Reina Gougelman, 73, of Melbourne, Florida passed away peacefully on February 4 at Kindred Hospital. He was born March 16, 1951, in Cook, Illinois by parents Paul R. Gougelman Sr. and Jayne Henderson. He was an attentive and devoted husband to Pamela Gougleman, with whom he shared over 20 loving years. Paul was surrounded by family and friends who adored his knowledge and easy-going spirit. He leaves behind three sons, Joey Hare, Christopher (Iana) Hathaway, and Bobby (Vanessa) Galantis, sister-in-law’s, CurRhonda Long and Arnita (Tim) Ozgener. He was blessed with four grandchildren, Michelle and Sage Hathaway, Dakota and Frank Galantis. Paul was often seen with his dog Jax at Starbucks for afternoon coffee.
Paul was known by all who loved him as a stellar gentleman who was a highly respected, diligent and trusted attorney. He was a believer in public service and spent the last 40 years helping and assisting those in his community. His expertise was in municipal law, land use, planning and zoning matters. Paul was appointed by three different Florida Governors to serve on the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, on several planning and zoning boards, as well as many leadership positions in The Florida Bar’s Section for Environmental and Land Use Law.
He was awarded many accolades; Best Lawyers in America Land Use and Zoning Law, Fort Lauderdale Illustrated Top Lawyer, Space Coast League of Cities Public Service Award just to name a few. Paul also loved to share his knowledge with rising attorneys serving as an Adjunct Professor for Land Use Law at University of Central Florida Environmental and Land Use Law at Florida Institute of Technology and Public Administration Law at Webster University. Paul was quoted in a long list of articles and publications from Florida Today and Florida Bar Journal.
Throughout his life Paul touched many lives with his kindness, generosity and professionalism. His sense of humor was extraordinary, he loved to keep people engaged with his quick wit and smart jokes. We will remember and celebrate him during a visitation on Friday, February 14 from 4-7pm and Celebration of Life service on Saturday, February 15 at 2pm at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home and Chapel, 1010 E. Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne. Reception to follow at Eau Gallie Yacht Club, 100 Datura Drive Indian Harbour Beach. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, 1300 S.E. 10th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, February 18 at 2pm.
