Salvador Aleguas Jr.

Born on November 6, 1934 in Colon, Republic of Panama.
Passed on April 2, 2026 in Melbourne, Florida

Salvador Aleguas Jr., 91, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 2, 2026. A man who lived life entirely on his own terms, Salvador will be remembered for his unwavering positive mental attitude, his historic contributions to the Space Coast, and his deep devotion as the patriarch of the Aleguas family.

Born on November 6, 1934, in Colón, Republic of Panama, to Salvador Aleguas and Hilda Aleguas, Salvador’s life was defined by adventure, service, and ambition. He served with distinction in the U.S. Navy during the 1950s and the time of the Korean War, traveling throughout Europe before returning to Florida to witness history firsthand.

In the 1960s, Salvador played a remarkable role in the American space program. Beginning his career in 1959 with RCA, he worked in timing systems supporting missile launches, including the Thor missile program and the historic Poseidon launch. As part of the Cape Canaveral timing team, he was responsible for countdown systems and launch coordination, often working in close proximity to active launch sites.
He later joined the Apollo program as a Flight Crew Systems Engineer, contributing to spacecraft systems, testing procedures, and mission readiness across multiple missions through the program’s conclusion in 1972, including Apollo 11 Moon Landing. As a Filipino engineer in a pioneering era of space exploration, his accomplishments reflected both his expertise and his determination.
In 1973, Salvador pivoted to a career in real estate, later starting Aloha Realty and then becoming Sal Aleguas Realty where he would become a cornerstone of the Brevard County professional community for over 50 years. Sal joined the Space Coast Association of Realtors in 1973 and was President in 1987. An active Realtor until his final days, he remained a mentor and a fixture in the industry he loved.
Beyond his professional achievements, Salvador was a man of immense family loyalty. He took great pride in his role as a provider and steward of the family name, successfully working to bring his mother and siblings to the United States from the U.S. Canal Zone in Panama. He remained a supportive and constant presence at family events, always viewing himself as the guardian of the Aleguas legacy.
Salvador is survived by the mother of his children, Evelyn Joy Aleguas; and his children: Theresa Aleguas Fields and her husband, Maurice; Salvador Aleguas III and his fiancé Vidalina Notario; Shannon Powell and her husband, Jeff; and Tony Aleguas and his wife, Natasha.
He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Alexis Brown, Lainey Brown, Olivia Aleguas, Marisa Aleguas, Salvador Aleguas IV, Sydney Powell, and Monica Powell.
He is further survived by his siblings: Mary Meaux, Richard Aleguas, Diana Blanchard, Ingrid Wiggins, and Marilyn Gilmore, along with an extended family who will forever be inspired by his indomitable spirit and zest for life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Linda Aleguas and Nancy Carlis McGinley.
