Stephen Anthony Mitchell

Welcomed into Heaven on July 27, 2025 in Palm Bay, Florida

Stephen Anthony Mitchell entered into eternal peace on July 27, 2025, in Palm Bay, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones.

Stephen was born on September 19, 1958, in Tonawanda, New York. He was known for his kind heart, his service to his community, and his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend, and believer.

Stephen loved the idea of raising his family in a community, so he and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Grant, Florida where they raised their three children. For over 30 years, Stephen faithfully served in the community, from being a booth chairman at the Grant Seafood Festival to reading ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas every year at the community Christmas play.

Stephen had a great sense of humor and taste in music. He was a brilliant engineer, a great cook with a knack for smoking turkey and brewing award-winning beers, an outdoor and gardening enthusiast, and an avid bicycle rider who biked across the entire state of Florida. He loved nothing more than spending quality time with his family, going on vacations and celebrating birthdays and holidays together.

Stephen has been reunited with his loved ones who have gone before him, including his parents, Stephen and Orma, and his sister, Marian.
Stephen’s memory lives on through his wife, Cheryl, and their children, Melissa, Stephen, and Shelley, as well as his sisters, Patty, Maura, Theresa, and Janice. He is also remembered through extended family, friends, and community members.

He now rests peacefully above where the mountains kiss the sky. We love you, Stephen. We love you, dad. We’ll see you again soon.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at the Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Chapel on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with visitation beginning at 2:00pm and the service at 3:00pm. The service will be followed by a reception at the Grant Community Center.

I miss my brother. At five-years-old, I idolized Steve, following him to school as he walked through the snow because he didn't want to wait for the school bus. That is the earliest memory I have of Stephen. I continued to idolize him well into my teens and would do anything for him, including calling him at precisely 9:00 at Red Lobster faking a family illness so that he could leave work without getting in trouble. The idol is long gone and a wonderful friendship took its place. Thank you for being my friend, my brother! I miss you.
