Alberta Kathryn Hillis, 93, of Melbourne, Florida passed away on March 27, 2024 at her home following an extended illness.

She was born on January 27, 1931 in Conran, Missouri, a daughter of the late Virgil and Eliza (Froman) Curtis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Hillis; two sons, Anthony and Kevin Hillis; five sisters Irene Curtis, Mary Belle Call, Helen Caudill, Gracie Mayberry, Margie Whitright and one brother Lindol Curtis.

Alberta was a retired Brevard County Public School teacher with over 25 years of service. She was a member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church in Melbourne, Florida. When she was in good health she enjoyed writing children’s stories, gardening, and her Shelties, Shadow and Shelby.

Survivors included her daughter Marla Powell of Melbourne, Florida; grandchildren Christian Powell, James Powell and Micaela Powell; great-grandchildren Layla, Aria and Mason and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be Monday, April 1, 2024 at 11:00 am at Brownlie-Maxwell Chapel in Melbourne and burial will be Friday, April 5, 2024 at 1:00 pm in Mounds Park Cemetery in New Madrid, Missouri.
