Alma Jean Bloss

Born on March 19, 1937 in Venango, Pennsylvania
Departed on May 25, 2025, in Melbourne, Florida

Alma Jean Bloss, known as “Jean” or “Jeanie” to those close to her, passed away on May 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Jean was born in Venango, Pennsylvania, to Alma Keziah Cummings (Blystone) and Merle Dean Cummings.

Along with her loving husband, Lloyd, Jean was a long-time resident of Melbourne. She was involved in the community as a beloved bus driver for the Brevard County School District, member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and a garden club member.

Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver. She was extremely generous and always willing to jump in and help others, whether it be family, friends, neighbors, or strangers. She was know for her fiery red hair and her equally spirited personality. Her home was a gathering place for family and friends, always with meals and laughter.

Her favorite pastimes were gardening, being a friend to backyard wildlife, and caring for her Chihuahua-Yorkshire Terrier mix named Casper, a faithful companion. She had the ultimate “green thumb” and was able to grow anything she set her mind to. Jean took great joy in sharing cuttings of her unique plants with others.

Jean is survived by her children, Debra Bloss and Rebecca Matchette [Michael Matchette], her grandchildren, Angela Reider [Richard Reider] and Matthew Matchette, and her great-grandchild, Brenda Reider. She is predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Bloss, her daughter, Brenda (Susie) Thompson, and her grandson, Christopher Matchette.

A graveside gathering will be held later this summer on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00am at the Melbourne Cemetery, facilitated by Brownlie Maxwell. For those unable to attend, please feel free to share a few words, a favorite memory, or funny story here that can be read during the gathering to remember and celebrate her life.
