David Charles Woods, Sr., age 75, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on August 16, 1948 to Eugene and Gayle Woods in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up on Hillside Drive in East Cleveland and Norwalk, Ohio. In his early teens he and his family moved to Florida where he attended and graduated from Melbourne High School in 1966.
David dedicated 35 years of his career to Harris Government Systems, where he worked diligently in quality assurance. His commitment to excellence and meticulous attention to detail ensured the highest standards in every project he oversaw. The NASA Hubble Telescope was one of the many projects he worked on over the length of his career.
David is survived by his children David Charles Woods, Jr., Cardilla Ann Haley, Christina Lee Madsen, Theodore Charles Woods and Stephanie Gady. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua Woods, Logan Woods, Cailynn Ortega, Nicole Heise, Breanna Haley-Santos, Hannah Woods, Bailey Madsen and Alonna Haley. David was also a great-grandfather to Noah Haley-Santos. He was also loving big brother to Dawn Ann Powell and Mark Woods.
Beyond his professional achievements, David had a passion for playing pool and he was an avid fly fisherman. He was head of the North Brevard Pool League for several years, where he made numerous friends and shared many memorable moments. David also loved riding his motorcycle, finding joy and freedom on the open road.
David’s dedication, love, and zest for life will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, love for his family, and enthusiasm for his hobbies will continue to inspire and guide those he leaves behind.
The family will hold a memorial service on August 17, 2024 at 2 pm at Brownlie Maxwell Funeral home located at 1010 Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne Florida 32901. There will be a celebration of life after the services from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm at The Grand Manor located at 1450 Sarno Road, Melbourne, Florida 32935.
