David Jenks Hamman

Born August 10, 1940, Butler Indiana.
Passed October 4, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida

David Jenks Hamman, age 84, of Melbourne, Florida passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024, in Melbourne, Florida from natural causes and was surrounded by family. He was born on August 10, 1940, in Butler, Indiana to Frederick and Pauline Hamman

David was a barber in his early days, owned an appliance store, but spent much of his career as an engineer, designing printed circuit boards. His career sent him to many places such as Indiana, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Georgia. He enjoyed dancing, the water, and even lived on a sailboat for several years.

He made his way back to Melbourne after he retired. Once he retired, he had a snow cone business to keep him occupied. He took pride in the quality of taste and enjoyed seeing the smiles on the children’s faces. He would do many different types of festivals, travel to daycares, schools, ball fields, and churches and would donate back to the community. When he moved to Tennessee, he had a stationary spot for his snow cone trailer at the farmer’s market where he would enjoy sitting and waving to traffic.

He loved animals and enjoyed watching warm-hearted stories and movies about them. He had several dogs throughout his life, but had two special dogs, Stanley and Gus, that he adored. Even at the end of his life, he would sit outside and feed the squirrels by hand.

David was a jokester and always had stories to tell. Even in his younger days, he and his friends would play innocent pranks on others. He was always friendly with people and seemed to come up with jokes to keep them laughing.

He is survived by his longtime love of 13 years, Joyce Korte, his brother Michael Hamman and his wife Karen Hamman, the mother of his children, Jan Varga, his children, Jenny Wood and her husband Eric Wood and Michelle Hamman, his grandchildren, Sarah Stanton and her husband Marshall Stanton, Nicholas Hinton and his wife Carly Hinton, Zachary Reising, and Lydia Hamman, his great-grandchildren, Blake Stanton and Elijah Hinton, his nephews Greg Hamman and Grant Hamman, step sons Tommy Gahagan, Mickey Gahagan, Jerry Gahagan, and Patrick Gahagan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis Hamman, and his son, David Hamman.
