Gary Gene Hurd, 81, of Melbourne, Florida, passed away on April 13, 2024. He was born on October 14, 1942 in Casper, Wyoming.

Gary worked for many years at the Department of Defense as a civilian directly supporting the Naval Data Automation Command implementing Navy-wide programs to standardize and share software and data. He also led the Defense Logistics Agency Defense Support department with a large staff supporting the U.S. Army and Systems Development Corporation.

Gary is survived by his wife Stacey, daughters Jamie and Theresa, and son Steve.

He is preceded in death by his father Ollie; mother Pauline; first wife Jackie; sister Sherry and brother Ron.

As a young man, Gary was an athlete who loved playing football. Later on he was active in Ascension Catholic Church and carrying the message of hope using the 12 steps at Space Coast Overeaters Anonymous. He cherished his two Boston Terrier dogs, kayaking with his wife and loved reminding his family in northern states that “You don’t have to shovel sunshine in Florida!!”

Gary’s Funeral Mass will be May 7, 2024 at 1 pm at Ascension Catholic Church.

Gary was one of the most kind and beautiful men that I have ever met I loved him and were close refered to each other as brothers he will be missed my prayers are with Stacey who I know loved Gary to the extreme
