John “Jack” Van Dam

In Loving Memory of John “Jack” Van Dam who passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 2023. He was born in Flushing, New York on August 20, 1946.

He is survived by his heartbroken wife of 53 years Barbara; daughter Amy; sons Eric and Ian (Michele); grandsons Merrick, Lachlan and River; brother-in-law Steve Ozabal (Sue) and many dear friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings and nephews. He was a South Melbourne Beach resident for 47 years and loved the close-knit community and the island lifestyle as a prior long-time surfer, sailor, and dedicated Parrot Head. His favorite things to do were dancing, a good party and watching sunrise and sunset.

He received his BA from Indiana State University as a Recreational Therapist, and also worked as an occupational therapy aide, orderly, ambulance driver, Scotty’s Home Building manager and retired as a realtor.

In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital or the Brevard Humane Society in his name.

A Mass of Remembrance will be at Immaculate Conception Church on December 16, 2023 at 11 am, and then a paddle out at Melbourne Shores Ocean Park at 3 pm.
