John Russell West, a longtime resident of Palm Bay, passed away after a lengthy illness. John was born in Brooklyn, Maryland April 6, 1953.

He was preceded in death by his parents Russell Elbert West and Mary Alice West (Pitts) and two sisters Dorothy Ann Mitchell and Dinah Mae Upton.

John is survived by his wife Kate A. West; sister Peggy West Griner (Gary); many nieces and nephews; two stepsons; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John joined the United States Air Force in 1972; he earned many medals/ribbons during his service to our country. He loved the travel and would say you could tell what country he was in by what he was drinking. His most favorite country was the UK as he did two tours there. He, and his wife Kate, loved riding his Harley along the coast there. John retired from the Air Force after 25 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant (E8). He was a member of the Platinum Coast Amateur Radio Society AA3JW. John will join is fur children Chessie Anne, Maggie Mae and Abbie Gail at the rainbow bridge.

John’s request is that donations be made to Chesapeake Safe Harbor, 141 South East Street, Amherst, Massachusetts, 01002 to help with the rescue and care of many fur children who need love and good homes:
