Katherine L Thomas, 92, of Lutz, Florida, passed away Saturday January 11, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Satellite Beach, Florida. Katherine was born March 20, 1932, in Rogersville, Tennessee to Mabel and Herbert Taylor, the oldest of three children including sister Wanda McMurry and brother Jimmy Taylor. She lived a full and wonderful life, attended East Tennessee State University at Johnson City, lived in Germany and travelled throughout the USA and Europe.
Katherine moved to Florida in 1965 with her three daughters, working multiple jobs. She was a data entry clerk at Radiation, Inc. (Harris) when she met her husband Roy E Thomas in Melbourne, Florida in 1970. They married soon after and moved to their lakeside home in Lutz.
Mom was a devoted Christian her entire life. A loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great- grandmother—family was ever-important. She never met a stranger and insisted on hugging everyone she met. In all her children and grandchildren she instilled a strong sense of adventure, curiosity, service to others, and love. She volunteered over 40 years with the ESA sorority seeking donations for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Roy, parents Mabel and Herbert Taylor, daughter Kathy Geiger, daughter Jerrine Corso, and life partner Merle Cox. She is survived by siblings Wanda McMurry (Fred) and Jimmy Taylor (Brenda), daughter Patricia Matthews (Gary), stepson Roy Thomas Jr. (Sharon), grandchildren Michelle/Jessie Lanza (Blake), Cory Foy (Chrissy), Chase Geiger (Amanda), Kristin Meier (Bob), Lindsay Procopio (Joe), Ryan Corso (Erin), and sister-in-law Jamie Hanson (Gregg).
She is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews, not to mention hundreds of others who called her “Meme” whom she thought of as her kids.
The family will hold individual Celebrations of Life in Satellite Beach and Lutz Florida at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, or a hospice provider of your choice.
