She was also valued by the family pets as their human grandmother, in spite of her reluctance at returning their devotion
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Cummings, her parents, Nicholas and Ella
Galasso, her brothers, Richard Galasso, Edwin (Linda) Galasso, Bruce (Linda) Galasso, and
Glenn Galasso, her sister, June Colucci (Nicholas), and her sister-in-law, Linda Galasso (Bruce).
Prior to marriage and becoming a mother, Madelyn enjoyed working as a bookkeeper and in accounting.
Madelyn and Joe began their life together in Graham, North Carolina, where they welcomed their sons, Keith and Mark. The family later relocated to Melbourne, Florida, in the early 1960s, where their daughter, Cathleen, was born. Madelyn was an active (non) member of Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne where her husband and children attended church. She contributed to the parish by participating in the Handmade Articles group, the Fall Festival, and as a Scout Mother, along with Joe as an Assistant Scoutmaster, for Troop 373 in which her sons were Scouts. She enjoyed her time as a dance mom for her daughter. Madelyn and Joe were devoted band parents while their children attended Eau Gallie High School and Melbourne High School. In fact, Madelyn commandeered a prime corner window of the EGHS band concession stand during every football season for six straight years. Madelyn cherished her friendships, by having regular shopping dates with her best gal friends, often bowling at Palace Bowl then going for pizza at Jerry’s Pizza every Friday night or enjoying card and game nights with close family friends. She was also a dedicated supporter of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sports teams by attending as many games as she could. She also enjoyed a lifelong interest in knitting and crocheting.
Madelyn can be remembered by the following “pearls of wisdom”, often shared with her children, “Stay sober” or “Stay on the straight and narrow” meaning don’t have so much fun that you get yourself in trouble; “Smile and show your dimples” or “Control your emotions” meaning always be nice and pleasant or just plain keep your mouth quiet.
A private service will be held to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Francis Reflections Foundation, www.reflectionsLSC.org/Donate
