Marilyn Lee Fleming

Born April 7, 1949 in Newton, North Carolina
Departed August 3, 2024 in Melbourne, Florida

In the early morning of August 3, 2024, Marilyn Lee Fleming passed away peacefully at Viera Del Mar Health and Rehabilitation Center in Melbourne, FL. Our beloved Marilyn was 75 years old.
Marilyn was born in 1949 to Dr. Auburn Lee and Mary Gladys Poovey in Hickory, NC. She celebrated life with her family in Hickory through her teenage years.
For her entire life, Marilyn was an amazing artist and loved working her skill with flowers, seashells, and jewelry. Nothing made her happier than to present her family with handcrafted gifts for birthdays and other important holidays. Marilyn loved her home, had a passion for plants, and spent much of her time in her garden tending to her flowering tropical plants and trees.
She also loved fashion, sewing, and preparing delicious meals for her family. Since 2002, she has loved living in Florida, loved all her animals which brought her so much joy, and especially enjoyed spending time with her friends, grandchildren, daughter, Dawn, and son-in-law, Paul.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her father Dr Auburn Lee, and her mother, Mary Gladys Poovey. She is survived by her daughter Dawn (Paul) Melcher, grandchildren Andrew and Emily Melcher, sister Joyce (Herman) Demmink, and sister Julia (Bill) Wittenberg.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on August 11, 2024, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory, NC. A graveside service will immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory. A Celebration of Life has also been planned for Marilyn’s family and friends who reside in Florida. This joyous remembrance will take place at the Irene H. Canova Community Building located at 2285 Florida Highway A1A, Indian Harbour Beach, FL 32937. The Celebration will be Saturday, September 21, 2024, from the hours of 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Memories will be shared, stories will be told, and Marilyn’s favorite foods and refreshments will be provided.
In memory of Marilyn, and as an expression of sympathy, donations may be sent to the Brevard Humane Society (Brevard County, FL) or your local Humane Society in memory of Marilyn Fleming.
