Ruth Comstock Gray, 99, of Melbourne, passed away on January 21, 2024 at Holmes Regional Medical Center. She was born February 25, 1924 in Ridgewood, New Jersey to the late Chester Nickerson and Agnes Nickerson Read.

Ruth attended Cornell University School of Nursing and joined the Navy in 1945 during WWII where she served as a Pharmacists’ Mate at San Diego Naval Hospital. While there she met her future husband Zane Gray.

She worked many years in the medical field as a medical secretary. She had a strong, abiding faith in God, and was an active member of Good Shepherd Anglican Church and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry and Altar Guild for many years and was a leader in Stephens Ministry.

Ruth was an avid knitter and made many afghans which she gifted to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by husband Zane Gray, daughter Nancy Libasci and granddaughter Christina Ruth Libasci. She is survived by children Diane (Rodney) Lucke, Patti (Jerry) McTaggart, and Mary Jane Palko. Also survived by grandchildren Vince (Michelle) Libasci III, Zane (Ashley) Lucke, Lisa (Mike) King, Adam (Erin) Wilborn, Travis Wilborn, Jessica (Nick) Rider, Lucas (Kristy) McTaggart, Sarah Palko (Blake Panichella), Emily (Daniel) Martinez, and great grandchildren Amanda Libasci, Samantha Libasci, Alyssa Libasci, Dillon Libasci, Tia Blair, Poetry Snelling, Antwan Brown, Colin King, Wyatt King, Jackson Lucke, Zackary Lucke, Evan Wilborn, Madison Wilborn, Hendrix Rider, Elsie Rider, Jack McTaggart, Lucy McTaggart, Maxwell Cowen, Olivia Martinez, Avery Martinez, Peyton Martinez, and great great grandchildren Nova Rose and Riot Rose.

Ruth “Granny” was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held February 25, 2024 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Donations in her memory may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

I’m so sad to read of my favorite client ever😰 I did Ruthie’s hair for many years. I had a lunch for her at my home along with Lee Ann On her 97th birthday. I always looked forward To seeing her…she always wore a smile. She will forever be remembered in my heart. Love to the family. She was a incredible lady❤️❤️❤️❤️

Great Aunt Ruth was the sweetest lady. I remember mom and Aunt Margie making their trips to Florida to visit her. She will be missed by many.
