Jeannine Palchat
Beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Ms. Jeannine Pelchat, 94, of Melbourne, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026.
Born in Pintendre, Quebec, Jeannine came to Florida in 1957, where she raised her three sons. She later worked at the Q-Bit electronics manufacturing facility until her retirement.
Jeannine was a steadfast, independent woman whose life reflected her values, resilience, and dedication to hard work. She came to the United States speaking no English, yet was determined to learn the language, build a life, raise her children, and contribute to her community. Her courage and adventurous spirit was reflected in her numerous trips to the Bahamas in small boats, despite never learning to swim, and in learning to ride a motorcycle—ultimately completing a coast to coast journey across the United States.
She deeply loved her children and grandchildren, and they always knew the special place they held in her heart. She cherished all aspects of nature, especially dogs, which were beloved members of her family throughout her life. She found great joy in cooking for her family and was a true artisan in the kitchen. She loved gardening and was a gifted seamstress, creating clothing and costumes for her children and grandchildren, including an award-winning dragon costume brought to life by several young boys. Later in life, she knitted and donated hundreds of bonnets for newborn babies.
She was a competitive player of dominoes and cards, often playing late into the evening with family. She was also an avid reader of fiction and nonfiction.
She is survived by her sister, Yvette Labreque; her sons, John (Karen), Robert, and Yves (Stacey); and her grandchildren, Kevin, Anne, Nicolette (Jack), Jake (Alexandra), and Alex.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charitable cause of your choosing. Private services will be held at a later date.
Those who loved her never doubted her love for them. Our mom and grandma will live in our hearts forever.
