Born February 5, 1943 in Hudson, New York
Passed November 5, 2024 in Indialantic, Florida
Stephen J. Neville of Indialantic stayed with us as long as he could. He told his children and grandchildren that he loves and is fulfilled by all of them and then began a quiet and quick easing into death. He left us Tuesday November 5 with his wife of 59 years, Susan, and children at his side.
Steve was born in Hudson, New York in 1943, the second oldest of six. He was a hard worker with a tremendous work ethic and was a self-taught and clever tradesman. As a teenager, he was a standout on the Morris Hills High School varsity basketball team and also worked in a steel mill, on a dairy farm, and at the St. Francis Health Resort.
As a young man, he started a drywall business and then ran a hog farm. He later managed buildings and maintenance departments for two universities, was a safety inspector for the state’s OSHA office, drove a bus, and started and managed with Susan a property management business until retirement.
Steve loved cooking for family and friends and was especially known for his pizzas and pancakes. He enjoyed beach walks, farm walks, coaching his kids’ sports teams, listening to music, and playing the card game “Aw Heck”. He loved his family deeply and unconditionally and gave his all to their happiness.
He will be deeply missed by Susan; three children Kelly (Philip Zies), Holly (Fernando Gallestegui), and Stephen (Kirsten Neville); nine amazing grandchildren; and three surviving siblings.
The family welcomes your notes, hugs, donations to Candlelighters of Brevard or the charity of your choice, and any other way you wish to express your sympathy and appreciation for Steve’s life, including joining the celebration of Steve’s life on Friday November 29, 2024 at 11:00am at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialantic.
Victim of Steve Neville

I am relieved to hear of Steve’s passing, as it brings an end to the trauma he caused me and many others. Starting in 2015, as a tenant of a property he managed, Steve subjected me to sexual harassment that left lasting scars. He often made inappropriate remarks about my appearance, compared me to his daughters, and shared explicit details about their romantic lives. He frequently sent unsettling, unsolicited emails, including one where he made bizarre and offensive comments about the Holocaust. His erratic behavior—angry outbursts, manipulation over security deposits, and mistreatment of tenants—were common complaints among many others. His conduct revealed a deep-seated sexism. I’ll never forget the cruel comment he made in writing about my being angry because I was “getting old and still unmarried” (I was in my 20’s). This man caused harm, both mentally and emotionally, to countless people, and his legacy is one of abuse and predation. His passing may offer closure to those he tormented.

I will miss you, Mr. Neville. You and Mrs. Neville always made me feel at home with you. I’ll always treasure all the hours I spent with your family. As an adult, you were welcoming to my family as well. My husband really liked conversations with you. You raised three amazing children (I’m a little partial to Kelly). You left behind a great legacy and the world was a little better because of you!

My condolences to all the Nevilles. Your father was an enviable dad, and obviously loved all of you so much. It was a joy to share in your household for some holidays and those perfect summers of our youth. I will always treasure how he treated me as almost family, even if it started with healthy (and deserved) skepticism. I mourn with you. The world is a dimmer place without his light and humor.
