Theodore Robert Amgott

Born on January 31, 1953 in Brooklin, New York
Passed April 23, 2025 in Melbourne, Florida

Dr. Theodore Robert Amgott, 72, went home to the Lord on April 23, 2025, after battling glioblastoma for over 15 months.
Born in Brooklyn to the late Gilbert and Julia Amgott, “Teddy” grew up in suburban Cranford, New Jersey, with his brother Gordon. Fond family memories included summer vacations at White Meadow Lake with cousins.
After majoring in biology at nearby Princeton University, Ted headed south to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree, then he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. During his pulmonary fellowship at Duke University Medical Center, he met the love of his life, Colleen.
After reaching Florida in 1984, Ted served the internal medicine, pulmonary, sleep, and critical care needs of the Brevard community for 38 years. Ted prized fraternity at Melbourne Internal Medicine Associates (MIMA), and he later valued camaraderie at Health First Medical Group and Kindred Hospital too. A well-respected, compassionate physician, Ted enjoyed the challenge of medicine, the thrill of critical diagnoses, and the opportunity to mentor future medical students.
Ted was a devoted husband to Colleen and proud father to Jonathan and Natalie. A family highlight was delivering his own children successfully, to his wife’s relief! He demonstrated his unwavering love and support for his family by always making time for family fun, over a game, in the pool, or traveling together.
In the Sunshine State, Ted became an avid windsurfer and later a runner, competing frequently in local races. A lifelong zeal for learning made him a brilliant wordsmith, history buff, devoted French student of Natalie, and “armchair philosopher” with Jonathan. Ted also savored jazz, Indian cuisine, and hiking wooded trails. Retirement afforded the opportunity to polish his culinary skills and to surprise Colleen with many adventures followed by photo albums.
Ted was a man of strong character, integrity, and kindness. He showed his appreciation in many ways, often surprising his staff with treats. Full of joie de vivre and a wonderful sense of humor, Ted would light up the room with his grin and contagious laughter while storytelling. He will be remembered for his compassion for those in need, especially the hungry and the homeless.
Ted is survived by his wife of 39 years, cherished children, son-in-law Ryan McEachern, and loving extended family. May this good and faithful servant rest in peace.
The visitation on Thursday, May 29, 5:00-7:00 p.m., and funeral Mass on Saturday, May 31, 11:00 a.m., will both be held at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Blvd., Melbourne, FL.
The Amgott family expresses loving gratitude to the Melbourne community, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Health First Hospice, and many united in prayer across the country.
