William M. Levy

Bill was born in Boston, MA in 1938 to Abraham and Florence (Shuman) Levy. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Doodle, brother Dr. Robert Levy, daughters Alison Clew (Brian) and Lisa Jensen (Eric), stepchildren Jay Godwin (Cathy) and Karla Allen (Shane), seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by granddaughter Kelly Marie Godwin.

Bill grew up in Brookline, MA and as a young man served eight years in the Army National Guard. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bentley University. Bill was an accountant, worked in the garment industry, and finished his career after many years as a mortgage broker. He was involved in the Jewish service organization B’nai B’rith in both Massachusetts and Florida, including a stint as president of the Space Coast chapter. Bill was also a distinguished past president of the Space Coast chapter of the Florida Association of Mortgage Brokers. Bill was committed to causes dear to him at the city, county and state level, including his appointment to the City of Melbourne Affordable Housing Advisory Committee from 2008 to 2014.

Bill moved to Florida in 1983, mainly in search of more months in which to play golf. He was very happy all these decades as a New Englander in Brevard County, continuing his enthusiastic support for all of Boston’s excellent sports teams. Bill was a voracious reader, never tiring of the novels of his favorite authors as well as the news of the day.

What gave Bill the most joy in life was his deep love for his family –and for friends that were like family. As his worsening diabetes curtailed his and Doodle’s travels, Bill stayed in touch with everyone via phone, text, FaceTime and social media. He was incredibly proud of all his kids and grandkids, no matter whether they be related by blood or marriage. He looked forward to weekly phone calls with his brother and daughter, visits with friends and family, and to seeing what new photos everyone sent of their dogs, their travels and their daily activities.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 8th at 1pm in the Brownlie – Maxwell Funeral Chapel.

Bill’s storytelling and his caring, loving and funny ways will be missed.

As a kid, in the 1970's, I worked at a mens' clothing store in Malden MA. Bill was a salesman who stopped in regularly and took the time to offer direction and support to me at a critical time. I will always appreciate his guidance.
